Notes
"An exquisite talent and a fascinating mind"-Cyril Connelly

The Heart is a Lonely Hunter was Carson McCullers's first full-lenght novel. It is a story of a group of people in the American South, and their individual response to the gentle, sympathetic appeal of a deaf-mute. They include a fourteen-year-old girl, a drunken outcast, a negro doctor, the proprietor of a café and a fat, lazy Greek.

Although they are dissimilar outwardly, these people have a common inner factor-loneliness. And they come to believe that the deaf-mute possesses what they have been groping for in their lives".
